Dynamic Chapina Tapestry

Guatemalan Geometric Composition

Dynamic Chapin Tapestry 74″ X 40″ Acrylic and Modeling paste on canvas

This is a composition that utilizes various decorative elements found in Guatemalan textiles. There is a transformation of patterns along the horizontal plane suggesting the movement of the two circular kites along the central plane. Colours and pattern like these are commonly worn among the native women selling their wares at the open market complimenting with the colour of the fresh produce they sell.

This work was commissioned by Ian Salt who gladly participated in the investigation of using the textile geometries that had intrigued me enough to want to paint this work

Hyper Realistic City Scape Holt Renfrews

Sherbrooke and Montagne Montreal

This is a large scale composition measuring 94″ X 43″ of Acrylic on birch ply. It was painted in the spirit of the photo realists of New York of the 1960’s however I did warm the colors from the original image and had to reinterpret the grain of the photographic references that I was using making it more part of the realm of hyper realism, My client is featured in the foreground with his wife and daughter which made for a very unique understated family portrait. Needless to say this was a great deviation from my usual approach to producing visual images but I was up for the challenge after reviewing many examples of this work and thinking through the methodology required to make is a success.
